The demand of PCS(Personal Communication System)s is increasing, so the efficient use of the limited resources, i.e. channels, is very important. As the cell size is decreased, the handover is the most performance issue.
In this paper, we present a new method of improving the quality of service in mobile cellular networks based on prioritization of handover requests. We develop the prioritization scheme using DCA(Dynamic Channel Assignment). It reduces the blocking probability of handover calls, but it increases the blocking probability of new calls. We suggest the adaptive guard channel method that reduces blocking probability of new calls when the guard channel method is used.
The suggested method is compared with DCA with and without prioritization scheme by simulation. The simulation results show that blocking probability of new call is lower than when the guard channel method is used and that carried traffic and call completion ratio increase.
