In the Visual Inspection System(VIS), there are many problems to be solved. Especially, we have focused on two problems of them. One is the problem of the image distorted by illumination, and the other is that of the optimal number of filter and the optimal size of filter for multi-resolution. Distortion problem is the main cause to make the image information lost and modified, so for the exact inspection, we must solve the problem. And there are many kinds of defects in inspecting objects ; smear, flaw etc. But using only one filter, there is the difficulty for all of them to be inspected, because the capability of one filter is constricted. So for solving the problem, we will use some filters simultaneously through the parallel processing. In that case, we should know what is the optimal number of filters and the optimal size of each filter.
In this thesis, we will suggest the method to compensate the image distorted specially by the mechanical assignment error of illumination, and how to decide the optimal number of filters and the optimal size of each filter. Finally we will apply this algorithm to the VIS made by us based on VME-PC and DSP.
