This thesis presents three topologies of disk-type shaftless motor with seperated rotor and stator. The proposed topologies can be applied to perform such a special function as rotating and moving simultaniously. The PM(permanent magnet) type which is mainly focused in this thesis can be used for the case of large air gap(about 10 mm). The availability of new high-energy PMs at a resonable cost has opened up the possibility of developing very compact PM type motor. The prototype based on the novel topology is constructed and tested. The experiments show that the performance of the prototype is similar to BLDCM(Brushless DC Motor).
