We have implemented a radar display unit using inexpensive off-the-shelf components. This system consist of two custom designed boards; an analog signal processing board and a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) board which can be plugged into an expansion slot of a Personal Computer (PC) to form a maritime radar display unit. The implemented system provides all the functionality specified in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) resolution A422(XI). The analog signal processing board is used for the analog-digital conversion as well as for the sea and rain clutter suppression. Main functions of the DSP board are the scan conversion and the video overlay operation. The host PC is used to run the multi-target α-β tracking filter and Graphic User Interface (GUI) software for Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA).
This thesis also presents the angle-only tracking algorithm using the Radar Principle Cartesian Coordinates (RPCC) which decouples the measurements error-covariance matrix to reduce the number of computational operations and the effects of ill-conditioning.
