Fluorene-based alternating copolymers, poly(9,9'-di-n-hexyl-2,7-fluorenediylethy nylene-alt-9-trimethylsilyl-2,7-fluoreneethynylene)[P-I], poly(9,9'-di-n-hexyl-2,7-fluorenediylethynylene-alt-9,9'-bis- trimethylsilyl-2,7-fluoreneethynylene)[P-II] and poly(9,9'-di-n-hexyl-2,7-fluorenediylethynylene-alt-9- trimethylsilyl-9'-n-hexyl-2,7-fluoreneethynylene)[P-III] were synthesized by palladium catalyzed polycondensation.
Resulting polymers exhibited good solubility in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran(THF), chloroform, dioxane, etc. and could be easily cast on ITO glass plates to give good thin films.
Characterization of these polymers was performed by using $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}H$-NMR, FT-IR and UV-visible spectrophotometers. Thermal behaviors were also investigated by using Differential Scanning Calorimeter(DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis(TGA).
The number average molecular weight($M_n$) values of the polymers were in the range of $3.8 ~ 5.1 × 10^3$ relative to polystyrene standards by GPC.
Consequently, the present polymers exhibited emission of white blue color. The photoluminescence(PL) spectrum of the polymers showed two peaks at around 490 and 540nm and it was found that electroluminecence(EL) spectra of the polymer[P-II] was very similar to the PL spectrum.
