This thesis deals with an efficient methods of intra-firm technology transfer in Japanese corporate R&D center. Also, this study is to illustrate how to plan new projects and to handle more efficient technology transfers of project results in their technology management system to business divisions. This study consists of three parts.
The first part discusses the technology transfer and commercialization on the basis of theoretical frameworks. The second part summarizes the case study of Japan's companies which have a good system of transferring technology efficiently. Finally, technology strategic system and efficient methods of technology transfer were suggested for Korean corporate R&D center by analyzing the common characteristics of excellent companies in this work.
For this study, Japan's worldwide companies such as such as SONY, SANYO, MATSUSHITA, NEC, TORAY, DENKIKAGAKU, JAPAN PETROCHEMICAL were selected which have a good process in transferring the result of technology in electronics and chemical materials industries and have excellent commercialization ability. In spite of the methodological limitations of the data collection method, this study suggests the following implications.
An efficient technology transfer of R&D results is accompanied by the ability of understanding the technology in an accepting division. The management of linkage between R&D centers and business divisions can promote communication and improves the commercialization effect of technology outputs. On the other hand, when the R&D centers are provided with market information, transferring technology becomes more efficient.
In conclusion, the efficient transfer of technology results comes from systematic management process prepared in advance in R&D activities. Also, at the top management level, technology transfer and commercialization process are considered as the most prioritized works.
