Evolution of computing has been a expansion of instruments for the communication and expression of ideas. Multimedia involves the integration of a wide range of symbolic modes and the interactive information. Consequently new interface design problems arise especially from selecting media, structuring information, and user's cognitive workload then integrated framework is needed for multimedia interface design development. The evaluation of multimedia interface design could tell the design factors to be considered and the effects of interface design on the communication. It should be considered the relation between user and interface design. This thesis is purposed to develope the process of multimedia interface design evaluation based on the correlation between contents, media and interface design.
At first the concept of multimedia is discussed in the view of media's attributes and the characteristics of multimedia information are identified. To grasp user requirements for multimedia interface design, it is needed to understand what human-computer interface consists of and what are problems related to multimodal and interactive characteristics of multimedia interface based on features which are identified from user's cognitive information process. As multimedia interface is the complex entity involving contents, media and interface design attributes, it needs analytic approach to evaluation. In proposed evaluation process firstly interface design is divided into modules and then attributes of modules are extracted. Based on data about interface modules analysis and evaluation steps are performed according to criteria which are about attention in information processing, orientation in interactive information and consistency.
