Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are widely employed in the display industry due to the properties of organic materials. Holes and electrons are injected from the anode and cathode and they encounter each other in the emissive layer to form an intermolecular charge transfer state, subsequently leading to exciton formation. To enhance the efficiency of OLEDs, it is essential not only to develop emitters with high internal quantum efficiency (IQE) but also to acquire a theoretical understanding of the exciton formation process. This thesis describes the theoretical importance of intermolecular charge transfer states during exciton formation. It involves the calculation of rate equations for energy and charge transfer associated with intermolecular charge transfer states. Chapter 1 focuses on elucidating the exciton formation mechanism by analyzing energy transfer pathways from the intermolecular charge transfer state, known as the exciplex state, of the cohost to the excited state of the phosphorescent emitter. Chapter 2 presents the effect of the charge recombination processes on the singlet exciton ratio, achieved by calculating the charge recombination rate from intermolecular charge transfer states, denoted as polaron pairs, to excitons.
