This study analyzes companies listed on the Korea Exchange from 2000 to 2022, focusing on the relationship between operating growth, subsequent corporate performance and stock returns. This study analyzes whether the asset growth effect is effective in the Korean stock market. The key findings include a significant negative correlation between operating growth and both subsequent corporate performance and stock returns. Asset growth is found to have greater explanatory power than other variables, benefiting from the predictability of balance sheet components. This negative correlation is supported by the error-in-expectation hypothesis, which is evidenced by declining patterns in analyst forecast errors and abnormal returns following earnings announcements. The study also confirms the negative relationship between asset growth and stock returns in the Korean stock market through robustness tests.
