Recent years have seen open banking boost financial innovation. This study investigates the impact of open banking implementation on the mobile bank app industry, the competition between incumbent banks and internet banks, and the mobile financial industry by analyzing 3,500 users. It uncovers how open banking fuels app market growth and intensifies traditional versus internet bank rivalry. Moreover, the implementation of open banking is shown to be more advantageous for internet banks. The results also demonstrate that open banking has spillover effects on other mobile financial industries. The research provides academic and practical insights for financial industry stakeholders and policymakers on understanding what open banking means in terms of competition, cooperation, and the financial ecosystem.
오픈 뱅킹은 전 세계적으로 금융 분야의 성장과 혁신을 주도하고 있다. 이 연구는 오픈 뱅킹의 시행에 따른 모바일 은행 산업 변화, 전통 은행과 인터넷 전문은행 간 경쟁 변화, 그리고 금융 업계로의 스필오버 효과를 살펴본다. 3,500명의 모바일 앱 사용 데이터를 분석하여 추가 변수를 도출하고 사용자의 행동 변화를 분석한다. 오픈 뱅킹 도입 이후 앱 사용량과 다중 은행 이용의 변화를 통해 모바일 은행 시장 확대와 전통 은행과 인터넷 은행 간의 경쟁 증대가 확인된다. 또한, 주거래은행 변화는 오픈 뱅킹 이후 줄어들었으며, 특히 인터넷은행은 고객 유출을 효과적으로 막고 있어 인터넷은행에 더 유리함을 발견할 수 있다. 더하여, 은행만이 아닌 증권, 카드 등의 모바일 금융 업계에도 스필오버 효과가 있음을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 오픈 뱅킹의 영향을 이해하고자 하는 금융업 관계자들과 정책 결정자들에게 유용한 인사이트를 제공한다.
