We examine corporate disclosure patterns according to changes in firm states during financial crises in Korea. Using panel data on Korean listed firms during 1995–2019, we first confirm that they transparently (opaquely) disclose information when a change in return on assets is positive (negative) during crises. Moreover, we check that these disclosure patterns increase debt financing, and are ineffective for equity financing. Finally, for chaebols with internal capital markets, we find that receivers of internal capital offer transparent (opaque) disclosure of negative (positive) changes in their states. By contrast, providers show the opposite patterns.
본 연구는 금융위기 기간동안 한국 기업의 상태 변화에 따른 공시 유형을 확인하였다. 연구 결과 금융위기 시 자산 수익률 변화가 양(음)일 때 경영자는 투명한(불투명한) 공시를 한다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 이러한 공시 유형은 타인 자본 조달을 증가시키지만, 자기 자본 조달에는 효과적이지 않다는 것을 확인하였다. 끝으로, 내부 자본 시장을 가진 재벌의 경우, 내부 자본의 수요 주체는 그들의 상태 변화에 있어, 음(양)의 변화를 투명하게(불투명하게) 공시한다는 것을 발견하였다. 그에 반해, 내부 자본의 공급 주체는 상반된 패턴을 보였음을 확인하였다.
