In recent years, voice phishing scams have caused significant damage, using cellular-to-VoIP calls such as SIM box calls and CMC calls. Criminals use cellular-to-VoIP calls to disguise international internet calls as domestic calls. The equipment supporting cellular-to-VoIP is often located in hard-to-detect places, and even if detected, direct information about overseas criminals is difficult to obtain, leading criminals to install new equipment to continue their activities.
This paper aims to assist in the investigation of voice phishing crimes by analyzing the call protocols of cellular-to-VoIP calls and proposing a method to apply watermarking technology to voice traffic. Specifically, we understand the protocol characteristics of SIM box calls and CMC calls and explain why existing voice traffic watermarking methods do not apply to these types of calls. Watermarking for cellular-to-VoIP call traffic needs to be robust, as the transition from cellular to VoIP occurs. It also requires direct insertion from the device and must remain inaudible to the recipient. This paper develops a watermark that meets these requirements and demonstrates its distinguishability from typical call traffic.
최근 몇 년 동안 보이스피싱 사기가 큰 피해를 입히고 있으며, 이에는 심박스 전화 혹은 CMC 전화와 같은 cellular-to-VoIP 전화가 이용된다. 범죄자들은 cellular-to-VoIP 전화를 이용해 해외에서 발신된 인터넷 전화를 국내전화인 것처럼 둔갑시키는 전략을 사용한다. 이 과정에서 cellular-to-VoIP를 지원하는 장비는 발견이 어려운 곳에 위치해 있고, 이를 검거하더라도 해외의 범죄자에 대한 직접적인 정보는 알 수 없어 범죄자는 새로운 장비를 설치해 다시 범죄를 지속한다.
본 논문에서는 이러한 보이스피싱 범죄 수사를 돕기 위해 cellular-to-VoIP 전화의 콜 프로토콜을 분석하고, 이에 기반하여 음성 트래픽에 워터마킹 기술을 적용하는 방법을 제안한다. 특히, SIM 박스 전화와 CMC 전화의 프로토콜 특성을 이해하고, 기존의 음성 트래픽 워터마킹 기술이 해당 유형의 전화에 적용되지 않는 이유를 설명한다. Cellular-to-VoIP 통화 트래픽 워터마킹을 위해서는 일반적인 cellular 통화나 VoIP 통화와는 달리 cellular에서 VoIP로의 전환이 이루어지기 때문에 이에 견고해야 한다. 또한 단말에서 직접 삽입이 가능해야 하며 상대에게 들리지 않아야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 요구 사항을 모두 충족하는 워터마크를 개발하였고, 일반적으로 이루어지는 통화 트래픽과의 구별 가능성을 보였다.
