Suicide, a significant cause of death in the contemporary world, is a focal point of intense research in public health. Recognizing that suicide is a complex phenomenon influenced by multiple factors, this study utilized psychological networks and structural equation modeling(SEM) to delve into the intricate relationships among various risk factors of suicide. The analysis encompassed a dataset of 128,302 samples, combining The Korea National Investigations of Suicide Decedents (The KNIGHTS Study) data and the Korea Welfare Panel Study (KoWePS) data spanning 2013 to 2017, focusing on suicide and 13 common variables. A comparative assessment between 1) the SEM based on theories and conjecture, 2) the SEM based on the results of Exploratory Factor Analysis, and 3) the SEM based on network results revealed the superiority of the network-based model in terms of both model fit and theoretical validity. Results from the network and structural equation analyses identified depression and suicide attempts as robust predictors of suicide, aligning with findings from prior research. The study also unveiled the mechanism elucidating the impact of gender and latent variables on suicide. In light of these outcomes, the study delves into theoretical implications and offers insights into potential directions for future research.
자살은 현대사회에서 주요 사망 원인으로 간주되며, 공공건강의 분야에서 심도 있게 다뤄지고 있다. 자살은 단일 요인으로 결정되지 않으며 요인들 간의 복합적인 역동에 대한 분석이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 자살과 관련된 다양한 변인 간의 관계를 탐구하기 위해 심리 네트워크(Psychological Networks)와 구조방정식모델(Structural Equation Modeling)을 활용하였다. 2013년부터 2017년까지의 한국자살사망자 데이터와 한국복지패널데이터를 결합하여 총 128,302명의 데이터를 확보하였고 공통된 13개의 변수와 자살에 대해 분석을 실시하였다. 1) 이론과 추정으로 구성된 구조방정식 모델과 2) 탐색적 요인분석 결과 기반의 구조방정식 모델, 3) 네트워크 결과를 토대로 구성된 구조방정식 모델을 서로 비교한 결과, 네트워크 기반의 모델이 모델 적합성과 이론적 타당성 면에서 우수함을 보였다. 네트워크와 구조방정식의 결과에서 우울과 자살시도는 기존 연구와 동일하게 자살의 강력한 예측 요인으로 나타났으며 성별과 잠재변수들이 자살에 미치는 영향을 설명하는 메커니즘을 발견하였다. 해당 결과를 바탕으로 이론적 함의를 분석하고 앞으로의 연구 방향에 대해 논의하였다.
