In the field of opinion dynamics, there have been various attempts to explain the phenomenon that individuals’ micro-level behavior to become more similar to each other leads to macro-level segregation in society. However, there is still no agreed upon theoretical foundation or explanatory model for this phenomenon. This study aims to provide a new perspective on what factors in the process of interaction between individuals lead to system segregation. Based on research in the field of social psychology, we selected homophily tendencies, reference groups, and social norms as internal and external factors that influence individual decision-making, and operationalized them in an actor-based model as an adjacent individuals, adjacent neighbors, and the dominant characteristics of all actors in the system, and verified the convergence of the entire system. We also observed whether cultural diversity affects the degree of separation of the system. These results are expected to provide clues for future strategies to maintain diversity in society and mitigate polarization.
의견 역학 분야에서 개인 간에 서로 유사해지고자 하는 미시적 차원의 행동이 거시적으로 사회 전반의 분리를 일으키는 현상을 설명하려는 다양한 시도가 이어져오고 있다. 그러나 여전히 이에 대하여 합의된 이론적 토대나 설명 모델이 정립되지 않은 것이 사실이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 개인 간 상호작용의 과정에서 어떠한 요소들이 시스템의 분열을 발생시키는지 새로운 관점을 제시하고자 한다. 사회심리학 분야 연구들을 바탕으로 개인의 의사 결정에 영향을 주는 내적 및 외적 요인으로 동종선호 경향성, 준거집단, 사회 규범을 선정하였으며, 이를 행위자 기반 모델링에서 인접한 개인, 인접한 이웃, 시스템 내 모든 행위자의 지배적인 특성으로 조작적 정의를 내리고 전체 시스템이 수렴하는 결과를 확인하였다. 또한 문화적 다양성이 시스템의 분리 정도에 영향을 주는지도 관찰하였다. 모델링에 기반한 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 검증한 결과 의견 참조 범위에 따라 시스템이 다른 양상으로 분리되었으며, 문화적 다양성 수준도 분리 정도에 영향을 주는 것으로 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 향후 사회의 다양성을 유지하고 양극화 현상을 완화할 수 있는 전략에 대한 실마리가 될 수 있다.
