Recently, the Government of the Republic of Korea has emphasized ESG as a major economic policy direction and is pushing for mandatory ESG disclosure by 2026. In this situation, this study aimed to identify the domestic ESG management trends by using topic modeling techniques based on the CEO letters in the sustainability reports listed on the KRX for 11 years. As a result, it was confirmed through word frequency analysis that the messages were primarily composed of words directly related to ESG. The TF-IDF analysis revealed that a significant number of words were associated with business and financial performance. The 10 domestic ESG management topics over the past 11 years included: ① 'ESG management and performance', ② 'ESG management strategy deployment and importance', ③ 'Business strategy and environmental changes', ④ 'Digital innovation and enhancing corporate competitiveness', ⑤ 'Digital transformation and its significance', ⑥ 'Carbon neutrality and response to climate change', ⑦ 'ESG committee composition and enhancement plan', ⑧ 'ESG principles', ⑨ 'Crisis management and strategies for revenue increase', and ⑩ 'Technological development and future growth'. Finally, based on the announcement of the mandatory disclosure system in 2021, a comparison between the periods of 2013 to 2021 and 2022 to 2023 was conducted. It was analyzed that, in the earlier period, the importance placed on governance was relatively low compared to environmental and social aspects within the Environmental, Social, and Governance criteria.
최근 우리 정부는 주요 경제정책 방향으로 ESG를 강조하며 2026년까지 ESG 공시 의무화를 추진하고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 본 연구는 11년간 한국거래소에 등재된 지속가능경영보고서 내 CEO 메시지를 바탕으로 토픽모델링 기법을 활용해 국내 ESG 경영 동향을 파악하고자 했다. 그 결과, 단어 등장 빈도 분석으로는 주로 ESG와 직접 연관되는 단어로 메시지가 구성돼 있음을 확인했다. TF-IDF 분석으로는 사업 및 재무성과와 연관되는 단어가 다수 포함돼 있음을 확인했다. 11년간의 10가지 국내 ESG 경영 토픽은 ①'ESG 경영과 성과', ②'ESG 경영 전략 전개와 중요성', ③'경영환경 변화와 사업 전략', ④'디지털 혁신과 기업의 경쟁력 향상', ⑤'디지털 전환과 중요성', ⑥'탄소중립과 기후변화 대응', ⑦'ESG위원회 구성과 고도화 방안' , ⑧'ESG 원칙' , ⑨'위기 관리와 수익 증대 전략', ⑩'기술 발전과 미래 성장'이 도출됐다. 끝으로, 2021년 공시 의무화 제도 발표 시점을 기준으로 2013년부터 2021년까지 시기와 2022년부터 2023년 시기를 비교해 보니 이전 시기에는 환경, 사회, 지배구조 항목 중 상대적으로 지배구조에 대한 중요도가 낮은 것으로 분석됐다.
