Electro-optic polymer waveguides are fabricated by poling and photobleaching. First, the optical properties of electro-optic polymer and epoxy materials are characterized in order to design and fabricate the polymeric waveguides. The refractive indices of the polymer films are measured by using the prism coupling method. The change of the refractive index profiles with photobleaching is observed. Also their electro-optic coefficients induced by poling are measured. Based on these results, PMMA/DR1(an electro-optic polymer) and UV15(a UV curable epoxy) are used for the waveguide film layer and the cladding layers, respectively. The dependence of waveguide mode profiles and propagation losses on the fabrication parameters is investigated.
