B-ISDN supports various types of traffic with different characteristics. ATM is widely used to implement B-ISDN due to its flexibility. The statistical multiplexer helps the efficient use of the network resources. In this paper we consider the performance of an multiplexer with voice sources. The burstiness of voice source traffic is illustrated by On-Off pattern. On-period is modeled by a geometric distribution. While one is speaking, he pause between words or sentences, and listens to the other sides. It is reasonable that the silent duration is approximated by a weighted sum of tow geometric distributions. In this paper we analyze the performance of the statistical multiplexer with three-state bursty sources.
