In this paper, a new optical pick up drive mechanism is proposed and made for prototype. The newly designed drive mechanism use one actuator while general drive mechanism uses two actuators, which gives advantages of smaller size and weight than general one. Actuator mechanism is based on VCM(voice coil motor) guided by linear ball bush in replacement of DC motor and ball screw.
General optical pick up drive mechanism spec. is investigated and compared to the newly designed drive mechanism. And tracking experiment is performed by the newly designed drive mechansm using general control scheme PID, and TDC(Time Delay Control) algorithm known as an outstanding robust algorithm compared to other robust control algorithm.
