As the cold war has ended and peace mood has been prevalent in the world, the voice of disarmament in each country has been louder in recent years. For that reason, many countries convert their military technologies and R&D expenditures to private sectors to improve their total technology competitiveness. In this regard there is a need to study on key success factors to facilitate military technology transfer to private sectors in Korea.
Through paper survey, 13 success factors in four categories and 4 technology transfer stages are determined for this study. Based on these a research framework which matches factors and stages is made.
Because of insufficient data, case study seems to be a proper method for this analysis; first of all, apply those 13 success factors to military technology transfer and identify the promoters and the nonpromoters. Based upon the outcomes, the next step is to reveal which stages are especially important in military technology transfer.
The results show the followings: 10 factors are recognized as promoters in military technology transfer while 3 factors are found as hindrance to promotion, which are strongly affected by the unique characteristics of military technology and transfer system. And the two latter parts of 4 stages relatively attach importance to military technology transfer. According to this performance some political suggestions are presented to expedite military technology transfer for the future.
