The development of artificial intelligence is beyond imagination, and startups using artificial intelligence are rapidly spreading. As the investment market has been lulled since the COVID-19 pandemic, many startups have expressed concerns about raising funds. In this study, the investment stage of AI startups was separated, and the startup's business model was defined as "Deep Tech or not". Based on this, we analyzed how it affects investment activities by using indicators for technology. In addition, the value of technology according to “Deep Tech or not” was analyzed. Data was collected using a publicly available startup database. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the interaction between the startup's business model and the amount of technology patents had a significant effect on the investment stage. From the perspective of the investment stage, it was verified that technology patents show greater value when the main business model is not deep tech. Such a discovery expects the role of basic research that can be used when establishing an investment strategy for the purpose of raising funds by discovering factors that affect investment activities and analyzing their effects.
인공지능의 발전은 상상을 초월하고 있으며, 인공지능을 활용한 스타트업들이 빠르게 확산되고 있다. COVID-19 팬데믹 이후, 투자 시장이 소강 상태가 되면서, 많은 스타트업들이 자금 조달에 우려를 나타냈다. 이 연구에서는 인공지능 스타트업의 투자 단계를 분리하고, 스타트업의 사업모델을 “Deep Tech 여부”로 정의하였다. 이를 기반으로, 기술력에 대한 지표를 활용하여 투자 활동에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 또한, “Deep Tech 여부”에 따른 기술력의 가치에 대해서 분석하였다. 데이터는 공개된 스타트업 데이터베이스를 활용하여 수집하였다. 분석 결과, 스타트업의 사업모델과 기술특허량의 상호작용은 투자 단계에 유의미한 영향을 주는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 투자 단계 관점에서 기술특허는 주 사업모델이 딥테크가 아닌 경우에 더 큰 가치를 나타냄을 검증하였다. 이와 같은 발견은 투자 활동에 영향을 주는 요인을 발견하고, 그 영향을 분석함으로써 자금 조달 목적의 투자 전략 수립 시에 활용될 수 있는 기초 연구의 역할을 기대한다.
