This study examines whether salience factors derived from Bordalo et al. (2013)'s salience theory model have a negative predictive power for future stock returns. The findings reveal that investors tend to overvalue salient stocks, anticipating higher future returns, leading to lower actual future returns. Conversely, non-salient stocks are undervalued, resulting in higher actual future returns. Through Fama-MacBeth regression analysis, it was confirmed that the salience factors in terms of returns (Cosemans and Frehen, 2021) and trading volume (Sun et al., 2023) each have independent predictive power over future returns. To differentiate between the salience effect and the short-term reversal effect, historical trends were analyzed. The results indicated that the short-term reversal effect has significantly weakened over time and was not statistically significant. However, the salience effect remains statistically significant, particularly among micro and small-cap stocks.
