Solution processing is a technology based on liquid-based processes, which involves the control of evaporation kinetics, surface energy, and wetting behavior of liquids. It offers significant advantages such as scalability and unique characteristics associated with each specific technology. Due to these exceptional properties, the solution processing finds applications in various fields, including widely used personal device applications. However, despite the potential of the solution processing in personal device applications, many solution processing methods have not been effectively utilized.
To address these issues, I aimed to improve the potential solution processing methods for the personal device applications during my doctoral studies. Specifically, I focused on addressing the limitations of scatter layer fabrication for personalized optical sensor applications through control of the liquid's surface energy. As a result, it became possible to distinguish various organic liquids that were previously not feasible with conventional optical sensors, including detection in mixed liquid solutions. Next, for personalized display applications, I aimed to overcome the limitations of selective wetting through engineering of liquid surface energy. This led to the successful acquisition of quantum dot patterns that satisfied all the required conditions for displays. Finally, in the context of personalized sensor applications, I sought to overcome the limitations of hydro transfer with control of viscoelastic behaviors. This enabled the transfer of electronics onto highly curved joints that were previously unattainable using conventional transfer techniques.
