A Receiver(Rx) of functional near-infrared spectroscopy(fNIRS) IC designed to obtain hemodynamics of the human brain, which requires high SNR measurement, is largely composed of TIA, PGA, and OTA-C-based matched filters and a single-slope ADC.
However, there is a 'Dead-Zone' problem in which an unstable voltage level appears in a specific section near 0V among signals measured using an IC. This is not completely eliminated even if the offset is calibrated with its own current DAC since each IC has a inconsistent input offset value of the comparator.
In this paper, in order to minimize the instability of the measured values by the 'MSB detector' and the comparator of the ADC, we remove the 'MSB detector' and assign a period in which the comparator of the ADC first checks the sign information of the PGA output, and apply the charge extractor to the charge extractor. The effect of the 'Dead-Zone' was minimized by improving the system to deliver discharge direction information and quantize it.
높은 신호 대 잡음 비 측정을 요구하는 사람의 뇌의 혈류 역학 정보를 얻기 위해 만들어진 기능적 근적외선 분광법 집적회로의 수신기는 크게 TIA, PGA, OTA-C 기반 정합 필터와 싱글 슬로프 ADC로 구성되어 있다.
그러나 집적회로를 이용해 측정된 신호 중 0V 근처의 특정 구간에서 불안정한 전압 레벨이 보이는 ‘데드존’ 문제가 있다. 이는 각각 집적회로마다 비교기의 일정하지 않은 입력 오프셋 값이 존재하여 자체 전류 DAC으로 오프셋 교정을 해도 완벽히 제거되지 않는다.
본 논문에서 우리는 'MSB detector'와 ADC의 비교기 각각에 의한 측정값의 불안정성을 최소화하기 위해 'MSB detector'를 제거하고 ADC의 비교기가 PGA 출력의 부호 정보을 먼저 확인하는 구간을 할당하고 전하 추출기에 방전 방향 정보를 전달하여 양자화하는 시스템으로 개선하여 ‘데드존’ 영향을 최소화하였다.
