After the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increasing interest in the introduction of artificial intelligence into education systems, and research on AI-enabled education systems (AIED) is also actively being conducted. However, this research found that through literature review, research on AI-enabled education systems is limited to a technological perspective, and research on AI-enabled education systems in the field of education is slow. Additionally, it identified issues with the misuse of 'synergy' and a lack of synergy research within education. The study attempted to analyse seven cases of AI-enabled education to examine the synergy between AI and human collaboration in education, but faced limitations due to unclear mechanisms for many cases. Therefore, this study adopted Santa TOEIC as a single case of an AI-enabled education platform to deeply explore the types, conditions, and mechanisms of synergy between AI and human within an organization.
Through the case, it was revealed that 1) AI-human synergy in education has the synergy effect defined by Ansoff (1965), where humans can efficiently learn through personalized educational programs provided by AI, and AI can enhance its accuracy by utilizing quizzes response and behaviour data from human. 2) The conditions for AI-human synergy in educational environments involve a continuous questioning and answering or reacting process between AI and humans, where humans provide data to AI, and AI provides better educational programs by comparing individual student data with patterns from other students' data through algorithm analysis. The mechanism involves students providing selection and behaviour data to AI while performing educational activities provided by AI, and the algorithm analysing individual student data with patterns from other students to provide better quality personalized educational programs. 3) It was revealed that the synergy between artificial intelligence and human organizations has a different form of synergy from traditional human organizations. The AI-human organization has a different goal than the traditional human organization, and the synergy is measured by an increase in human learning efficiency and improvement in AI accuracy, rather than financial amounts or added value. The study also analysed that if the collaborative environment between AI and humans is broken, AI cannot improve.
This research aims to contribute to the organizational field of study by exploring the types, conditions, and mechanisms of synergy in Augmented Intelligence that is gaining attention in AI-Human collaboration. It focuses on the role of AI in education and aims to provide a case study that can help bridge the gap between AI technology and education.
4차 산업혁명과 코로나-19 팬데믹 이후, 교육 시스템 내 인공지능 도입에 관심이 가중되고 있으며, 인공지능을 활용한 교육시스템 (AIED)에 대한 연구도 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 한편, 이 연구는 문헌조사를 통해 인공지능 활용 교육시스템 연구가 기술학적 관점에 국한 되어있으며, 교육학 내에서도 인공지능 활용 교육시스템 연구가 더디게 이루어지고 있다는 것을 파악했다. 또한, 교육학 내, ‘시너지’ 오용 및 시너지 연구 부족 실태, ALS의 문제점을 밝혀냈다. 인공지능 활용 교육 사례 7가지를 분석하여 인공지능과 인간의 교육 협업의 시너지를 분석하려고 하였으나, 다수의 사례들의 인공지능 활용 메커니즘이 불분명하다는 한계점에 부딪혔다. 따라서, 이 연구의 목적은 인공지능 활용 교육 플랫폼인 산타토익을 단일 사례로 채택하여, 인공지능-인간 조직 내 시너지 종류와 조건, 메커니즘을 심층적으로 탐구하고자 하였다.
연구의 분석 중점 3가지는 다음과 같다. 1) 인공지능-인간 조직은 안소프 (1965)가 밝혀낸 시너지효과를 가지고 있었으며, 인간은 인공지능이 제공한 맞춤형 교육과정을 제공받아 단시간 내에 효율적으로 학습할 수 있고 인공지능 또한 인간의 퀴즈 풀이과정 및 학습비디오 시청에서 만들어지는 선택 및 행동 데이터를 활용하여 알고리즘의 정확도를 강화하였다. 2) 교육환경에서의 인공지능-인간 시너지 조건은 인공지능과 인간의 끊임없는 문답과정에서 인간이 인공지능에게 데이터를 제공하고, 인공지능이 다른 학생들의 데이터 패턴을 개별 학생들의 데이터와 비교하여 더 나은 교육과정을 제공하는 것이며, 메커니즘은 학생들이 인공지능이 제공한 교육 활동을 이행하면서 선택 및 행동 데이터를 인공지능에게 제공하고, 인공지능 알고리즘이 학생 개인의 데이터를 다른 학생들의 패턴과 함께 비교 분석하여 더 나은 품질의 맞춤형 교육과정을 제공하는 과정으로 구성된다. 3) 인공지능-인간 조직의 시너지는 전통적인 인간 조직과 다른 형태의 시너지를 갖고 있다는 것을 밝혀내었다: 인공지능-인간 조직은 기존 인간조직과 달리 다른 목표를 가지고 조직에 임하였으며, 시너지는 자금액, 부가가치 등이 아닌 인간의 학습능률 증가 및 인공지능의 정확도 향상으로 측정되며, 인공지능-인간의 협업 환경이 깨어지면 인공지능이 향상될 수 없다는 것을 분석했다.
이 연구는 인공지능 기술과 교육으로 이분화 된 인공지능활용 교육연구의 작교 역할 뿐만 아니라 하나의 사례를 통해 인공지능-인간 조직 협업에서 각광받고 있는 Augmented Intelligence의 시너지 종류와 조건, 메커니즘을 도출하여 시너지연구로써 조직학계에 기여하고자 한다.
