There is an increasing tendency for organizations to use virtual communication. Virtual communication enables geographically dispersed teams to collaborate effectively. Virtual communication, however, poses specific challenges, including the lack of shared physical space that can enhance communication and collaboration. Due to the misunderstanding of characteristic cues, disparity in member influence contributes to asymmetric influence patterns in virtual communication. Consequently, we examine the impact of disparity in member influence in virtual communication settings will negatively impact the performance of the task. Through an experiment, we find that virtual communication teams exhibit a greater disparity in member influence than face-to-face communication teams, which negatively impacts team performance. In this study, the theoretical and practical implications of virtual communication users, group decision-making processes, and group performance are highlighted.
조직에서 가상 커뮤니케이션을 사용하는 경향이 증가하고 있다. 가상 커뮤니케이션을 통해 지리적으로 분산된 팀이 효과적으로 협업할 수 있다. 그러나 가상 커뮤니케이션은 협업을 향상시킬 수 있는 공유 물리적 공간의 부재를 포함하여 단점도 있다. 공유하는 공간의 부재로 다양한 상대방에게서 오는 신호에 대한 오해로 인해 구성원 영향력의 불균형은 가상 커뮤니케이션에서 비대칭 영향 패턴에 기여한다. 본 연구는 가상 커뮤니케이션 팀이 대면 팀보다 멤버간 불균형적 영향력에서 더 큰 격차를 보여 팀 성과에 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 실험을 통하여 밝혔다. 본 연구는 비대면의 사용자 또는 그룹 의사결정 프로세스와 그룹 성과에 관하여 기존 문헌에 기여한다.
