The newspaper industry shows signs of slowing down. Newspaper companies are trying to create new opportunities in YouTube market. Korean business dailies entered the YouTube industry, producing the real estate channels. This study analyzed management and profitability of real estate Youtube channels on five major business dailies; The Korea Economic Daily, Maeil Business Newspaper, Moneytoday, Edaily, and Seoul Economic Daily. This research involved in-depth interviewing and analyzed through Michael Porter's five forces model, which is considered a basic analysis method to look at the industrial environment. In conclusion, there was no correlation between output of real estate YouTube contents by profit performance. This study suggests that the channels have a structural problem that makes it difficult to generate sales as much as they invested human resources. Newspaper companies must create business models for the Youtube business.
성장세가 약화하고 있는 신문사들이 새로운 수익 창출의 기회를 유튜브 시장에서 찾고 있다. 경제 신문사들이 부동산 유튜브 채널을 개설하고 콘텐츠를 생산하는 것으로 유튜브 산업에 진출했다. 복수의 신문사가 단일 주제로 채널을 개설한 사례로 경제지의 부동산 유튜브가 최근까지 유일하다. 이 연구에서는 한국경제신문과 매일경제신문, 머니투데이, 서울경제신문, 이데일리 등 부동산 유튜브 채널 구독자 기준 상위 경제지 5개 사의 유튜브 운영 시스템과 운영 성과, 회사의 내·외부 환경을 사례 연구와 종사자 심층 인터뷰를 통해 탐구했다. 분석을 위해 산업 환경을 조망하는 기본적인 분석 방법으로 꼽히는 마이클 포터의 ‘5 요인 이론(Five Forces model)’을 활용했다. 이 이론을 바탕으로 연구를 진행하여 경제 신문사들이 부동산 유튜브 콘텐츠를 생산하는 것과 수익적 성과 측면에서 연관성이 크지 않다는 결론을 도출하였다. 다만 대체재가 없다는 점에서 산업 내에서 우월적 경쟁력을 선점하면 성과를 낼 가능성이 커진다고 판단한다. 신문 기업들은 유튜브로 사업다각화를 하기 전에 수익모델을 수립하는 작업을 선행해야 할 것이다.
