Investors will value the cash held by companies more importantly in situations where financing from outside is limited, such as the 2008 financial crisis. This study analyzed the effect of changes in the funding conditions on the value of cash holdings viewed by investors in this motivation. In the Korean stock market, there is a positive correlation between a company's cash holdings and the excess return on stocks, and the value of cash holdings was higher in an environment where financing was limited. This trend was stronger in the KOSDAQ market, in smaller firms, and the difference according to the market return was not significant. High-cash companies tended to accumulate cash during periods of unconstrained funding conditions and use cash when the funding enviroment tightens.
2008년 금융위기 등 외부로부터 자금조달이 제한되는 상황인 경우 투자자들은 기업이 보유하고 있는 현금의 가치를 더욱 중요하게 여길 것이다. 본 연구는 이러한 동기에서 자금조달환경의 변화가 투자자들이 바라보는 현금보유의 가치에 미치는 영향에 대해서 분석하였다. 한국 주식시장에서 기업의 현금보유와 주식의 초과수익률간에는 양의 상관관계가 있으며, 자금조달이 제한된 환경에서 현금보유의 가치가 더 높게 나타났다. 이러한 경향은 기업규모가 작은 기업에서, KOSPI시장보다는 KOSDAQ시장에서 더 강하게 나타났으며, 시장수익률에 따른 차이는 유의하지 않았다. 고현금기업은 자금조달이 제한된 상황에서 현금을 축적하고 비제약환경에서 현금을 사용하는 경향이 나타났다.
