Over the past decade, market's interest in environmental, social and governance (ESG) has increased significantly. This study investigated whether information on corporate ESG practices is important(material) to market participants focusing on the Korean market. As a result of an empirical analysis using the data from FnGuide and DART, this article finds that from 2011 to 2021, among the 590 Korean companies listed in the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets, companies that proclaimed ESG performance information recorded a higher underpricing. This tendency was not limited to the day of listing but continued until 120 days after listing. It finds that there is a positive response from the market to companies with ESG information, and also that ESG information disclosure alleviates information asymmetry. However in the Korean market, where mostly KOSDAQ companies are listed, it has been proven to be more affected by the positive response of the market. Overall, the results of this study shows that ESG information plays an important role in the market.
