This study examines a higher frequency of positive overnight returns followed by negative daytime returns has a significant predictive power for the cross-section of future stock returns in the Korean stock market based on Akbas et al.(2021)'s methodology. Unlike the U.S. stock market, the abnormal frequency of daytime reversals regardless of reversal sign shows strong future stock return predictability at the single sorted portfolio level in the Korean stock market, and statistical significance is still observed when all firm characteristics are controlled by using Fama-Macbeth regression. But the significance of stock return predictability is weakened at the double sorted portfolio level controlled by other firm characteristic. In addition, it is found that the stock return predictability of the abnormal frequency of daytime reversals is noticeable in the the KOSDAQ market with relatively small companies and when excluding the COVID-19 Pandemic period, when differences of opinion among market participants were relatively diluted.
