Today, remote ensemble services are being provided by reducing audio latency through network. However, these services do not provide visual channels between performers, blocking Non-Verbal Communication. For visual channels, even if performers use other video conferencing tools in remote ensemble services, these are originally designed for different purpose and can affect the user experience due to their technical constraints. In this paper, 15 remote improvisation ensemble experienced users were interviewed to derive positive experiences, inhibitors and user usage patterns of video conferencing tools in remote improvisation ensemble where active Non-Verbal Communication is required. Based on these results, design workshops were conducted with related designers and researchers, and design opportunities were proposed for design practitioners to consider and investigate to when designing video conferencing tools for remote improvisation ensemble.
오늘날 네트워크롤 통한 오디오 지연을 줄여 원격 합주가 가능한 서비스들이 제공되고 있다. 하지만 이러한 서비스는 연주자들간의 시각적인 채널을 제공하지 않아서 연주자들간의 비언어적인 의사소통을 차단한다. 이를 위해 연주자들은 원격 합주 서비스와 함께 다른 화상 회의 툴을 병행하여 사용하지만, 이는 애초에 다른 목적을 위해 설계되었고 또한 많은 기술적 제약으로 인해 사용자 경험에 영향을 줄 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 활발한 비언어적 의사소통이 이루어져야 하는 원격 즉흥 합주에서의 화상 회의 툴 사용자 경험에 있어, 화상 회의 툴이 제공하는 긍정적인 경험, 이를 저해하는 부정적인 요소, 그리고 이에 대한 사용자의 사용 패턴을 도출하고자 15명의 원격 즉흥 합주 경험자들을 대상으로 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 이후 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 관련 디자이너와 연구자를 통해 디자인 워크샵을 진행하였고, 화상 회의 툴을 디자인 할 때 있어서 디자인 실무자/연구자들이 탐구할 수 있는 디자인 기회를 발굴하였다.
