The global climate change crisis is becoming serious, and the importance of research on developing eco-friendly products is being highlighted. However, the development of eco-friendly products is a complex problem that requires consideration of eco-friendliness, aesthetics, functionality, and economy, which is difficult for manufacturers with limited personnel and finances to proceed alone. As an example of a solution to this, this thesis developed FINGEROLL and PULPROLLER, which are eco-friendly lint rollers developed through cooperation with manufacturers. This thesis presented the idea of reducing material usage, volume, and carbon emission by eliminating handles, which are essential components of existing lint rollers. Also, the good design elements had been satisfied by improving the functionality, aesthetics, and economy of the existing lint rollers. Furthermore, the results of this study, FINGEROLL and PULPROLLER, proved their effectiveness through design evaluation activities from experts and users. This study had won the International Design Excellence Awards in 2022 and shared differentiated knowledge from existing eco-friendly product research in design research academia, such as collaborating with manufacturers and establishing design goals for eco-friendly lint roller development. It is expected that this thesis will be used as a reference element in the research on the development of eco-friendly products that will continue to increase in the future to cope with climate change.
전 세계적으로 기후변화 위기가 심각해지며, 친환경 제품 개발 연구의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 그러나 친환경 제품 개발은 친환경성을 비롯하여 심미성, 기능성, 경제성도 고려해야 하는 복잡한 문제이며, 제한된 인원 및 재정을 지닌 제조사가 단독으로 진행하기 어려운 상황이다. 이에 대한 해결책의 예시로, 본 연구는 제조사 협업을 통해 개발한 친환경 롤클리너(Lint Roller)인 핑거롤(FINGEROLL)과 펄프롤러(PULPROLLER)를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서는 기존 롤클리너의 필수 구성요소인 핸들을 없애어 재료 사용량, 부피, 탄소배출량을 절감하는 아이디어를 제시했다. 또한 기존 롤클리너의 기능성, 심미성, 경제성 개선으로 친환경 제품의 필수 조건인 굿 디자인 요소를 충족하였다. 더 나아가 본 연구 결과물인 핑거롤과 펄프롤러는 전문가와 사용자로부터 디자인 평가 활동을 통해 실효성을 입증하였다. 본 연구는 2022년 International Design Excellence Awards를 수상하고, 제조사 협업 및 친환경 롤클리너 개발을 위한 디자인 목표 수립 등 디자인 연구 학계에 기존 친환경 제품 관련 연구와 차별화된 지식을 공유하는 성과를 거두었다. 기후변화 대응을 위해 향후 지속해 늘어날 친환경 제품 개발 연구에 있어 본 논문이 참고 요소로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
