The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted many business activities to non-face-to-face activities, and videoconferencing has become a new paradigm. However, conference spaces isolated from surrounding interferences are not always readily available. People frequently participate in public places with unexpected crowds or acquaintances, such as caf ́es, living rooms, and shared offices. These environments have surrounding limitations that potentially cause challenges in speaking up during videoconferencing. To alleviate these issues and support the users in speaking-restrained spatial contexts, we propose a text-to-speech (TTS) speaking tool as a new speaking method to support active videoconferencing participation. We derived the possibility of a TTS speaking tool and investigated the empirical challenges and user expectations of a TTS speaking tool using a technology probe and a user-centered approach. Based on our findings, we discuss the need for a TTS speaking tool and suggest design considerations for its application in videoconferencing.
코로나19 팬데믹으로 많은 업무 활동이 비대면으로 전환되었고, 화상회의가 새로운 패러다임으로 떠올랐다. 그러나 외부의 방해 요소로부터 격리되어있는 회의 공간을 확보하는 것은 때때로 쉽지 않다. 사용자들은 종종 카페, 거실, 공유 사무실 등 주변에 다른 사람이 있는 장소에서 화상회의에 참여한다. 주변에 다른 사람이 있는 장소는 그 공간 속의 사용자가 화상회의에서 말하는 것을 간접적으로 어렵게 만든다. 이 논문에 서는 화상회의에 참여하는데 부담이 느껴지는 공간에 있는 사용자가 겪을 수 있는 어려움을 완화하기 위해 TTS(텍스트 음성 변환) 말하기 도구를 새롭게 제안했다. 기술 프로브와 사용자 중심적 디자인 방법론을 사용하여 TTS 말하기 도구의 가능성을 도출했고, TTS 말하기 도구를 사용하며 겪을 수 있는 경험적 문제 상황을 조사했다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 TTS 말하기 도구의 필요성에 대해 논의하며, TTS 말하기 도구를 화상 회의에 적용하기 위한 디자인 고려 사항을 제안했다.
