Electrospray is a technology that sprays charged fine droplets by concentrating electric field on a nozzle in which liquid is supplied. Water electrospray generates hydroxyl radicals and can be used in antimicrobial fields, but the onset voltage is high due to the high surface tension of water, which can be accompanied by electrical discharge, and the flow rate is too low to be utilized. Previous research implemented water electrospray without electrical discharge at a low onset voltage (< 3 kV) using a multi polymer micro-nozzle film to which in-plane extractors are combined, and improved the low flow rate problem. However, mass production is poor, and there are still problems of nozzle wetting, nozzle clogging, and flow deviation between nozzles. This study developed a nozzle film fabrication process that combines screen printing technology and UV embossing technology to secure mass production. Super hydrophobic surface with a contact angle of 150 degrees or more was realized by electrospinning PS nanofibers on the nozzle surface. A hydrophilic homogenizer was manufactured on the back of the nozzle using polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)-polyacrylic acid(PAA) electrospun nanofibers to improve nozzle clogging and flow deviation between nozzles. Charge density measurement, OH radical measurement, sterilization test, toxicity evaluation, and ozone measurement were performed to evaluate the performance of water electrospray.
