The purpose of this study is to examine the career transition and options for effective supports in the case of Women’s Korean Basketball League by applying qualitative and quantitative research methods and to suggest effective social adaptation measures. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, in-depth interviews were conducted to understand the different retirement experiences of 10 retired women's professional basketball players. The results of the survey were statistically analyzed using SPSS ver. 26. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that individual efforts are working more and support policies are needed for social adaptation. For effective support, players should plan ahead of retirement, and teams and WKBL should provide institutional plans to support retired athletes' career transition and career decisions. If a player who has been an asset and resource of the league lives a successful life after retirement, it will be an example for prospects who dream of becoming professional players.
본 연구는 질적·양적연구방법을 적용하여 여자프로농구 은퇴 선수의 경력 전환과 사회적응 경험을 살펴보고, 효과적인 사회적응 방안을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 심층 면담을 활용하여 여자프로농구 은퇴 선수 10명의 각기 다른 은퇴 경험을 심도 있게 이해하고자 하였다. 질적 연구를 보완하기 위하여 여자프로농구 은퇴 선수를 모집단으로 하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문지 응답 결과는 SPSS ver. 26을 사용하여 통계 분석 하였다. 연구 결과 은퇴 선수들의 사회적응 과정에는 개인의 노력이 더 많이 작용하고 있으며, 지원정책이 필요하다고 느끼고 있음을 확인하였다. 효과적인 사회적응을 돕는 방안으로 선수는 은퇴 전부터 미리 계획을 세워야 하고, 구단과 연맹은 은퇴 선수의 경력 전환과 진로 결정을 지원할 수 있는 제도적 장치를 마련해야 한다. 리그의 자산이자 자원이었던 선수가 은퇴 후에도 성공적인 삶을 산다면, 프로선수를 꿈꾸는 유망주들에게도 본보기가 될 것이다.
