This study aims to explore the current status of direct citations being used in the headlines of articles on portal news. To this end, a content analysis was conducted on 1,040 election articles displayed on NAVER during the month ahead of the 20th presidential election. As a result of the analysis, 64.7% of the articles with direct citations were in the headlines, and articles for portals only were using direct citations in the headlines more than articles published in both portals and papers. All 9 media companies subject to analysis used direct citations in their headlines more than 50%, and the negative valence of direct citations was 65.2%, far higher than the positive valence of 18.9%. In the case of direct citations that are not central to the textual relevance, 39.5% were also used in the headlines, confirming that direct citations in the headlines were routinely abused.
본 연구는 포털 뉴스의 기사 제목에 직접인용이 사용되는 현황을 탐색적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 20대 대통령 선거를 앞둔 한 달의 기간 동안 네이버에 게재된 선거 기사 1040건에 대한 내용분석을 진행하였다. 분석 결과, 제목에 직접인용이 있는 기사는 전체의 64.7%에 달했으며 포털에만 게재되는 포털용 기사가 포털과 지면 모두에 게재되는 기사보다 제목에 직접인용을 21.6%p 더 많이 사용하고 있었다. 분석대상인 9개 언론사 모두 제목에 직접인용을 사용하는 비중이 50% 이상이었으며, 직접인용의 유인가는 부정적 유인가가 65.2%로 긍정적 유인가 18.9%보다 월등히 높게 나타났다. 본문관련성이 중심적이지 않은 직접인용이 제목에 사용되는 경우도 39.5%에 달해, 제목 내 직접인용이 관행적으로 남용되고 있음을 확인하였다.
