This study attempted to examine the changes in the locality of local newspapers due to the development of digital media technology and to confirm the effect of the news platform environment on the production, distribution, and consumption of local newspaper contents. To this end, This study analyzed the difference in locality of local newspaper articles in the paper, internet and mobile which serve as news platforms. This study analyzed in detail the locality, the subject, the type of local newspaper articles based on the existing discussions. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the proportion of nation articles and straight articles on mobile devices increased and the locality weakened compared to the paper or Internet homepage. Although there are differences between local newspapers, the remarkable locality on the Internet homepage and the increased proportion of special and planning and commentary articles were good examples of the digital environment. However the proportion of economic, cultural, and sports articles on all news platforms of the local newspapers that were the subject of analysis was remarkably small. These results can be said to be contrary to readers motivation to use local newspapers for real-life news and information. Ultimately This study is meaningful in that it empirically proved the problem of weakening locality in new media by expanding the locality study of local newspapers to mobile.
본 연구는 디지털 미디어 기술 발전에 따른 지역신문의 지역성 변화를 고찰하고, 뉴스 플랫폼 환경이 지역신문 콘텐츠 생산과 유통, 소비에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 했다. 이를 위해 뉴스 플랫폼 역할을 하는 지면, 인터넷 홈페이지, 모바일에서 지역신문 기사의 지역성 차이를 살펴봤다. 본 연구는 기존 논의에 기초해 지역신문 기사의 지역성과 이와 연관된 기사의 주제, 기사의 유형을 세부 분석했다. 연구 결과 지면이나 인터넷 홈페이지에 비해 모바일에서 전국 기사, 스트레이트 기사 비중이 증가하며 지역성이 약화되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 언론사별 차이는 있지만, 인터넷 홈페이지에서 지역성이 두드러지고 기획 기사와 해설 기사 비중이 높아진 것은 디지털 환경의 좋은 예였다. 다만 분석 대상이 된 지역신문이 모든 뉴스 플랫폼에서 경제, 문화, 체육 기사의 비중이 현저히 적었다. 이러한 결과는 실생활과 관련된 소식, 정보를 원하는 독자의 지역신문 이용 동기와는 배척된다고 할 수 있다. 이 연구는 지역신문의 지역성 연구를 모바일로까지 넓혀 뉴미디어에서의 지역성 약화 문제를 실증적으로 입증했다는데 의의가 있다.
