In this study, content analysis was conducted on major domestic daily newspapers to analyze the frequency, type, frame, and source characteristics of media outlets at a time when cryptocurrency received full attention in Korea. As a result of analyzing the reporting characteristics, it was found that the reporting frequency is synchronized with the cryptocurrency price. In addition, most of the cryptocurrency reports were treated as straight articles instead of being in-depth and comprehensive, and it was found that they were merely superficial and fragmentary information delivery. Looking at the frame analysis results, over all periods, rather than focusing on technology development and future commercialization potential for blockchain, the underlying technology of cryptocurrency, interest-focused reports focused on cryptocurrency market prices and incidents. As a result of the analysis of the use of reporters, it was found that the proportion of relying on articles from the relevant industry, which is a stakeholder, or reporting the government's unilateral announcement without filtration was high. This shows that in the emergence of new technologies such as cryptocurrency and blockchain, there is a lack of scientific and objective reporting infrastructure that media companies can respond to.
이 연구에서는 국내에서 암호화폐가 본격적으로 관심을 받던 시기의 언론사들의 보도 빈도, 보도 유형, 프레임, 취재원 특성을 분석하기 위해 국내 주요 일간지를 대상으로 내용 분석을 실시하였다. 보도 특성을 분석한 결과, 보도 빈도는 암호화폐 가격에 동조화되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또 대부분의 암호화폐 보도는 심층적이고 포괄적으로 이루어지기보다 스트레이트 기사로 처리되어 피상적이고 단편적인 정보전달에 그치고 있음을 파악할 수 있었다. 프레임 분석 결과를 보면 모든 기간에 걸쳐 암호화폐 근간 기술인 블록체인에 대한 기술 육성 및 미래 상용화 가능성에 대해 집중하기보다 암호화폐 시세나 사건사고 중심의 흥미 위주의 보도가 주를 이루었다. 취재원 활용 분석 결과에서는 이해관계 당사자인 관련업계로부터 기사를 의존하거나, 정부의 일방적인 발표를 여과 없이 보도하는 비중이 높은 것으로 나타났는데, 이는 프레임과 함께 암호화폐 보도에서 언론사 자체 분석과 해설 기능의 빈약함을 드러냈음을 보여준다. 이는 암호화폐와 블록체인이라는 신기술의 등장에 있어 언론사가 이에 대응할 수 있는 과학적이고 객관적인 취재 인프라가 부족함을 보여준다.
