To trouble-shoot problems in the injection molding process, a knowledge-base has been constructed. To convert solution methods into a knowledge-base, data about resin condition and methods of solving the troubles have been collected. Experts in this domain have been interviewed, and technical documents are analysed in this process.
The expert system is composed of the following three parts.
First, the configuration system for the injection process recommands the range of conditions of the process to novice users.
Second, the history control system controls the injection process by storing data of various machine types and their capacities, and different process conditions of each injection company. It stores and restores the data for late injection processes.
Third, the trouble diagnosis system recommands the cause and solution to injection molding troubles. It supplies information such as the possibility of resolving the trouble, the characteristics of the trouble, the time required to solve the trouble.
