Simulation-based infrared images are widely used to reduce costs and physical acquisition time for the massive collection of authentic infrared images in various industries such as military, medical, manufacturing, and drones. However, the model-based image generation based on the commercial simulation software has the limitation of computing power in the actual natural environment. Therefore, this thesis proposes a CNN-based neural style transfer algorithm that transforms pseudo-realistic regions of simulation-based infrared images into a natural infrared texture. Specifically, the proposed stylization technique combines a histogram matching algorithm to match both brightness and fractal information of the style transferred infrared images with the results of the actual infrared images. Finally, from the simulation results, the transformed infrared images based on the proposed method indicated the closest similarity to the given actual infrared image in the three different simulation conditions. Image quality assessment was performed through quantitative and qualitative similarity scores.
