Wi-Fi fingerprinting has been studied extensively due to the widespread deployment of Wi-Fi infrastructure. However, extensive calibration efforts are required to collect as many fingerprints as needed to construct radio maps, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Although many studies have been conducted to reduce the calibration efforts, it can only be used in limited circumstances because it requires some location labels for the learning models or continuous sensor use. This research introduces a practical crowdsourcing-based radio map construction method for localization in multi-story buildings. The method estimates the vertical transportation means used for vertical movement and user traces based on Wi-Fi, pressure data, and inertial sensor data. The estimated location and Wi-Fi similarity are used to construct an initial model of the radio map, which is then optimized using unlabeled data. The extensive experiments carried out in three large multi-story buildings demonstrate that the method successfully builds accurate radio maps without any explicit effort to collect location references.
