Recently, the use of fossil fuels has increased as a result of rapid industrial development, and the problem brought on by the exhaustion of fossil fuels and environmental pollution is attracting a lot of attention. Eco-friendly energy technologies with low carbon dioxide emissions are expected as a solution to overcome the problems arising from the use of fossil fuels. Fuel cells have emerged as a promising technology for sustainable energy because of high energy density and low carbon dioxide emission. However, the high price of platinum used to improve the slow oxygen reduction reaction of the cathode is hindering the commercialization of fuel cells. In this study, we controlled the surface properties of materials to improve catalytic activity through various material design methods. In the first chapter, we enhanced the catalytic activity of Ag via the interaction between metal and oxide support using experimental method. In the second chapter, we designed new promising ORR catalysts with core@shell structure by controlling the surface properties of the shell material through exploration of the ternary material space using machine learning.
