Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) have unique optoelectronic properties with size-tunable band gap energy and narrow emission linewidth. Impetus for the displays with high color purity has driven intensive researches for quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs). The past decade has witnessed remarkable progress in QLEDs. The striking improvement notwithstanding, it has been lacking that the comprehensive interpretation for the correlation between the surface of QDs interacting with charges and the electroluminescent properties. In this dissertation, I analyze effects of the charge-interacting surface of QDs on the energy level alignment, carrier injection and recombination mechanism in the QLEDs. In addition, I realize high efficiency QLEDs by utilizing charge transfer from metal oxide-based electron transport layers to surface traps on the QDs.
