Recently, as wearable electronic devices and free-form displays have started to attract attention, the need for stretchable displays that beyond flexible displays has emerged. Previous studies regarding to stretchable organic-light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with all of intrinsically stretchable materials have low-efficiency, unstable operation and it is difficult in finding new stretchable materials. Also, stretchable OLEDs with thin-films using pre-strained substrate process has problem in low-uniformity and peak shift with elongation. In this dissertation, in order to complement the shortcomings of stretchable OLEDs which have been previously reported, developed stretchable OLEDs with patterned substrate using different process methods (photolithography, laser-cutting) which give geometrically stretchability to the rigid substrate and evaluated the characteristics of the device. Additionally, by optimizing of elastic pillar structures which has stress reduction effect on the device, successfully developed stable and reliable stretchable OLED display.
