Recent studies on beyond lithium ion batteries have shown great possibility for applications from mobile devices to larger scale electric vehicles or energy storage systems. As one of the promising candidates, Li-S battery with large energy density and low cost can potentially replace conventional lithium-ion batteries based on intercalation reaction. Prevention of polysulfide (PS) dissolution from S cathode that occurs upon electrochemical reaction is the most urgent barrier to overcome before commercialization of the Li-S battery. In this dissertation, I propose application of non-active material components for Li-S battery considering its chemical property during electrochemical reaction. Binder with electrostatic repulsion force and conductive agent with PS adsorption property could be applied effectively in Li-S battery and their properties were confirmed by various analysis methods.
