Improving the low lifetime of blue phosphorescent materials used in OLEDs(organic light emitting diodes) is one of the most difficult challenges in the display industry. As one of the causes of the low lifetime, interactions between excitons and polarons in the light emitting layer are known, but the electronic mechanism has not been elucidated in detail. In this paper, the process of degradation of the Ir-based blue phosphorescent material through exciton-polaron annihilation was confirmed through experiments and quantum calculations, and the reaction mechanism by which the degraded products are actually generated through the automated reaction network calculation could be derived.
