This study constructs a portfolio using the Extreme Risk Index (ERI) methodology and compares the performance with other portfolio selection methodologies. In particular, it is intended to analyze the performance of methodologies when extreme events occur, including the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 period. In addition to the ERI methodology using the extreme value theory, four portfolio selection methods were selected to evaluate performance in various aspects. In addition, by including cVaR and 1/sigma methodologies in comparative methodologies, it was confirmed whether ERI had an advantage among methods optimized for risk defense. Additionally, the effectiveness of the ERI methodology was verified through detailed analysis such as Sub-period analysis, Realized Vol. analysis, and Target Vol. analysis.
