Over the past few decades, various factors have been studied in order to explain the reasons behind the returns on assets. The result of those factors, however, depends heavily on the target portfolios and their characteristics. Furthermore, as the number of factors increases, the comparison between factors becomes more difficult due to the test multiplicity. Taking consideration into the above problems, this paper analyzes the factors that are effective in the Korean stock market in accordance with the methodology presented by Harvey and Liu(2021). Tests were conducted on both individual stocks and various portfolios, and comparative analysis was also performed on different timelines, looking into the results of before and after the global financial crisis. In all cases, the market(mkt) factor of Fama and French(2015a) was selected as the dominantly significant factor and depending on the assets’ class, different factors like size(smb), value(hml), and investment(cma) were also shown to be statistically significant as a result.
