AI assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant have recently become popular in family homes. AI assistants in the form of a speaker often are placed in a shared environment, which provides completely new types of user experiences from personal assistants. However, many families fail to use their AI assistants consistently due to the barriers of interactions in a multiuser context. In this regard, this dissertation aims to investigate the ways to support users' experience with AI assistants focused on the family home context as a multiuser intimacy group regarding family values. To find the essential design directions and considerations of the family-centered AI assistant, user studies were conducted to investigate the user experience and user expectations. Based on the results, the design guidelines for a family bond-reinforcing AI assistant were developed. The value of design guidelines was evaluated from consolidating the perspectives of designers and family users. This research contributes to user experience design research and design practice as follows. First, this research proposed a perspective for introducing the AI assistant into the family home context as a shared technology. Second, this research identified three categories of family-centered roles of the AI assistant regarding family cohesion, and emphasized the potential of the family bond-reinforcing role to enhance family relationships and value. Third, this research proposed the design guidelines for family bond-reinforcing AI assistants, which would provide an overview of designing family-shared service domains as a principle framework. By providing design guidelines for supporting family-shared experience regarding family values, the results of this research are expected to contribute to informing the design of the AI assistants that perform a family-centered role.
아마존 알렉사 및 구글 어시스턴트와 같은 인공지능 어시스턴트는 최근 많은 가정에서 사용되고 있다. 스피커 형태의 인공지능 어시스턴트는 주로 여러 명의 사용자가 공유하는 환경에 놓여져 개인 어시스턴트와는 완전히 다른 사용자 경험을 제공한다. 그러나 다중사용자 환경에서 사용자가 느끼는 인터랙션의 장벽으로 인해 많은 가족들이 인공지능 어시스턴트를 지속적으로 사용하는데 어려움을 겪고있다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 논문은 가정 환경을 여러 명의 사용자가 함께 거주하는 환경이라는 관점에서 조명하고, 가족의 가치와 관련하여 인공지능 어시스턴트에 대한 사용자 경험을 증진하려면 인공지능 어시스턴트가 어떻게 디자인 되어야 하는가를 탐색하는 것을 목표로 한다. 가족 중심 인공지능 어시스턴트의 핵심적인 디자인 방향 및 고려사항을 발견하기 위해 사용자 경험과 기대를 알아보는 사용자 조사가 진행되었으며, 이 결과에 기반하여 가족 유대를 강화하는 인공지능 어시스턴트의 디자인 가이드라인이 도출되었다. 디자인 가이드라인의 가치는 디자이너와 가족 사용자들의 관점을 복합적으로 반영하여 검증되었다. 본 연구는 사용자 경험 디자인 연구 및 디자인 실무에 다음과 같은 기여를 한다. 첫째, 본 연구는 인공지능 어시스턴트를 가족 환경에 ‘공유 기술’로 소개하는 관점을 제시하였다. 둘째, 본 연구는 가족의 화합을 돕는 인공지능 어시스턴트의 가족 중심 역할을 세가지 분류로 발견하고, 그 중 가족의 유대를 강화하는 역할이 가족 관계와 가치를 증진할 수 있는 잠재성을 강조하였다. 셋째, 본 연구는 가족 유대 강화를 돕는 인공지능 어시스턴트의 디자인 가이드라인을 제안하였다. 이 가이드라인은 기본적인 프레임 워크로서 가족 공유 서비스 도메인 디자인에 대한 개요를 제공한다. 가족의 가치를 고려하여 가족 공유 경험을 지원하는 인공지능 어시스턴트 디자인 가이드라인을 제공함으로서 본 연구의 결과는 가족 중심 역할을 수행하는 인공지능 어시스턴트 디자인에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
