In this paper, we examine the intraday momentum in the Korean stock market using the KODEX200 ETF product. The return during the last 20 minutes before the market close is predicted by the return during the rest-of-the-day(from previous market close to last 30 minutes) or the return during the second-to-last-half-an-hour. In addition, it is shown that the hedging demand in the market acts as a factor that increases volatility, and as a representative example, we estimate daily rebalancing transactions derived from leveraged ETFs and observe that this variable significantly explains the intraday momentum. Intraday momentum is statistically significant on high volatile group, on high trading volume group and on high Amihud illiquidity measure group. On the other hand, Intraday momentum was observed, regardless of the classification based on the turnover rate and the classification between bullish market and bearish market.
