With regard to the role of venture capital, research has been conducted so far in terms of the effects of grand standing, certification role effects, and profit adjustment effect. Discussions are underway on whether venture capital has had a genuine impact on corporate growth along with tech bubble issues due to the recent WeWork crisis, and further research is needed on how venture capital affects investment companies in the long term.
This study wanted to verify the investment performance of venture capital and the impact of venture investment on the enterprise in the long term.
Even if venture capital has benefited greatly from the listing of investment companies, it would not be considered fundamental for the overall economy to support the venture capital industry if the company has poor management performance after listing.
To investigate this, the research was conducted by dividing listed companies into venture capital investment firms(VIs) and non-investment companies(N_VIs). Selecting a listed company for research can be considered an investment success story if it is listed after a venture capital investment, and the long-term effect of the venture investment is considered because the period after the investment is accumulated for a relatively long time before listing, and the data is released through disclosure.
The study analyzed the length of time required to be listed, the size and volatility of the market capitalization, the employment performance and financial performance of the company after listing, and financial performance was analyzed by dividing them into categories of growth, future orientation, profitability, stability, activity, and productivity. Through this, it has empirically confirmed whether the grand standing, certification role, and adjustment of profits just before listing are existing in the reality.
In addition, this study further analyzed the difference in performance after listing according to the characteristics of the venture capital invested and explored how venture capital affects the investment company in the long term.
